Newest federal COVID-19 safety guidance does not apply to health care settings

The recent Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidance for fully vaccinated individuals does not apply to health care settings. At this time, no policy related to masking, social distancing or patient care is changing within the walls and on the grounds of Penn State Health and Penn State College of Medicine facilities. Penn State Health and College of Medicine leadership will continue to assess health-care-specific guidance as it becomes available and revise policies and procedures accordingly.
Employees, faculty and students should carefully review the new guidance for fully vaccinated individuals and follow it in order to protect patients, colleagues and the community.
The recent guidance, including loosened quarantine requirements and the chance to enjoy time with vaccinated friends and family, reinforces that the U.S. is moving toward more balance in everyone’s lives.
Penn State Health is making strides in the distribution of vaccines, which is one of the key methods available to lessen the impact of COVID-19. Approximately 75% of the Penn State Health and College of Medicine workforce, students, contractors and volunteers have been vaccinated.
A number of the approximately 25% of our workforce who initially did not receive vaccinations are now securing them. Employees and students who are still interested in getting vaccinated can visit the Employee Health COVID site for appointment availability. Penn State Health is continually assessing vaccine availability and adding appointments.
“The Penn State Health family has made considerable sacrifices and invested in every possible precaution to keep patients, colleagues, communities and families safe,” said David Swift, senior vice president and chief human resources officer for Penn State Health. “Thank you for these efforts. Let’s continue to set the example in our communities.”
