Office of Health Advancement and Community Engagement team serves as guest chefs at Ronald McDonald House

A team from the Office of Health Advancement and Community Engagement (OHACE) volunteered on Feb. 26 to make meals for families staying at the Ronald McDonald House in Hershey while their children receive care at Golisano Children’s Hospital at Milton S. Hershey Medical Center.
The team participated in the Ronald McDonald House’s Guest Chef Experience for community groups. The program welcomes groups of two to six volunteers to prepare nourishing meals for families during a challenging time.
The OHACE team planned the menu and shopping list for three types of enchiladas – vegetable, chicken and beef – along with rice and beans and chocolate chip cookies. The Ronald McDonald House provided the ingredients and kitchen essentials.
The three-hour time commitment was well worth it, the volunteers said. The families appreciated the meals, describing them as “delicious.” The team also enjoyed a meaningful bonding experience.
“Having the opportunity to work together, outside of the day-to-day, to support families going through a difficult time is definitely a feel-good,” said Ipalla G. Cooke, director of workforce analytics. “I recommend it.”
This volunteer opportunity supports the mission of Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Pennsylvania to provide essential services that remove barriers, strengthen families and promote healing when children need health care.
