Optimizing CareConnect
What: Information Services (IS) is providing real-time support to assist physicians and advanced practice providers (APPs) in optimizing their use of CareConnect, our electronic medical record system.
How: We realigned IS resource responsibilities to provide elbow-to-elbow support. As a result, we expanded from one full-time employee providing CareConnect assistance to seven.
Why: Providing real-time support for CareConnect is part of our 2019 operating plan for Hershey Medical Center, and feedback we received via the physician and APP survey reinforced this need. In addition to providing elbow-to-elbow support, this initiative will also offer the opportunity for IS to listen and learn from the providers. In some instances, feedback will result in system and educational improvements.
When: IS staff members are currently assisting physicians and APPs in the acute care setting at Hershey Medical Center and the Children’s Hospital. They will begin assisting the Penn State Health Medical Group Academic Practice Division sites in January.
Quotable: “We’re committed to building relationships and providing a highly valued service,” said Bob Ganse, optimization team manager at Penn State Health. “Our goal is to listen and learn and return more time for patient care.”
