Penn State Health and College of Medicine ‘Stuff the Bus,’ lend a hand to nonprofits on United Way Day of Caring

Staff from Penn State Health and Penn State College of Medicine “Stuffed the Bus” with more than 2,000 school and health supplies during United Way’s Annual Day of Caring on Sept. 5. In total, United Way of the Capital Region collected a record 50,000 items for children and delivered them to schools that participate in the agency’s School Readiness Program.
As part of the 33rd Annual Day of Caring, volunteers from across the health system and the College of Medicine completed projects at several nonprofit organizations, including Lancaster Food Hub; Safe Berks, a Reading shelter for survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault; Linda House, a Perry County shelter; Hope Within Ministries, a community health and counseling center in Elizabethtown; and Hershey Gardens.
“Thank you to all who donated supplies or participated in the United Way Day of Caring,” said Brooke Smith, Penn State Health community relations director. “These moments of service are more than one day – they’re about building strong, trusted relationships that strengthen our communities.”
