Admiral Rachel Levine, MD, Assistant Secretary for Health at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and a former College of Medicine faculty member, will serve as keynote speaker. Levine has a distinguished career in pediatrics and public health leadership.
Entertainment includes performances by Lizzy Beaumont, a former Penn State Health nurse, and the Harrisburg Gay Men’s Chorus.
Information on Penn State Health and community resources for LGBTQ+ patients and employees will also be available at the event.
LGBTQ+ History Month is a time to honor the struggles, achievements and contributions of the LGBTQ+ community. It commemorates significant events like the 1979 and 1987 marches in Washington for LGBTQ+ rights and coincides with National Coming Out Day on Oct. 11. It’s celebrated globally, recognizing LGBTQ+ role models, fostering community and celebrating diversity.

At Penn State Health, supporting diversity and inclusion is a core value. In 2010, Hershey Medical Center launched its first BERG for LGBTQ+ and Allies employees. Since then, Penn State Health’s BERGs have grown to 11 groups, with the LGBTQ+ and Allies BERG representing 26% of total membership in all BERGs.
Employees interested in joining a BERG can fill out this short survey.
