Started in 1915 as a day of recognition, National Native American Heritage Month is now a month-long celebration of the first Americans’ contributions to the establishment and growth of the United States. This month is a time to recognize the deep history, culture and contributions of Indigenous persons and acknowledge the challenges experienced by this marginalized and often overlooked population. About 0.1% of our workforce identifies as Native American. Native Americans have practiced medicine and wellness for thousands of years. Several notable contributions include baby bottles, infant formula, syringes, oral contraception and sunscreen.
