Penn State Health and Penn State College of Medicine exceed United Way campaign goal, raising $331,921

Penn State Health and Penn State College of Medicine employees surpassed their goal of $325,000 for the 2025 United Way campaign, raising $331,921. These funds will support access to health care, employment assistance, school readiness programs and basic needs through local United Way agencies.

Most contributions came from pledges and donations, but employees also enjoyed giving through fun activities, such as a silent auction, food truck lunches at each Penn State Health hospital, a wine tasting and concert event at Cassel Vineyards and a used book sale.

“Thank you to all who supported our United Way campaign this year,” said Brooke Smith, director of Community Relations. “WE ARE a health system rooted in caring for our neighbors, and your support and generosity reflects the very best of who we are together. Because of your support, more neighbors will have access to the resources, stability and hope they need to thrive.”

On United Way’s Day of Caring Sept. 5, employees “Stuffed the Bus” with more than 2,000 school and health supplies for local students, contributing to the record 50,000 items collected by United Way of the Capital Region at all Stuff the Bus sites. Volunteers from across the health system and the College of Medicine also lent a hand with projects at nonprofit organizations, including Lancaster Food Hub, Safe Berks, Linda House, Hope Within Ministries and Hershey Gardens.

On Oct. 9, employees created and packed 150 Shoebox Meal Boxes for United Way of the Capital Region. Each box included shelf-stable ingredients to make a meal for four to six people, along with a handwritten note of encouragement and a recipe created by Wegmans registered dietitians. Volunteers also crafted bookmarks for United Way’s Ready for School, Ready to Succeed program to include in children’s literacy kits.

Congratulations to the winning bidders of the United Way Silent Auction!
