Penn State Health benefits open enrollment begins Nov. 2

Penn State Health has experienced more than a 13% increase to the medical and prescription drug costs for the 2023 plan year, but the increase will NOT be passed along to employees. Health system leaders have made the decision to absorb the full increase, including the employee cost — over $30 million — for 2023. This means that Penn State Health employees will incur NO INCREASE to the current medical and prescription drug rates effective with the new 2023 plan year.

Benefits Open Enrollment is the one time of year that Penn State Health employees can make changes to benefit elections, add or remove dependents and elect new or different coverage without experiencing a qualifying life event.

The 2023 Open Enrollment for Penn State Health begins Wednesday, Nov. 2 and remain open until 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 16. Any revisions, additions or deletions made during this open enrollment will be effective Jan. 1, 2023, with the new plan year.

Starting the week of Oct. 31, Human Resources will email employees open enrollment information and instructions for completion. Additionally, the 2023 Benefits Open Enrollment newsletter will be mailed to employees’ homes.

Information on what’s new and what’s changing this year is now available on the redesigned Penn State Health Virtual Benefits Fair, the primary destination for all 2023 benefit-related materials. Employees can access the benefits fair from any device, including smartphones and tablets, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Please note, for the best experience, use Google Chrome or Safari. Every weekday during Open Enrollment, there are designated times employees can chat with a member of the Benefits Team.

Representatives from the Penn State Health Benefit and Absence Management teams, Highmark and Empower (retirement) will be on-site during open enrollment to answer any employee benefit questions. Additionally, staff may live chat with a member of the Benefits team through the Virtual Benefits Fair.
