Penn State Health celebrates National Employee Resource Group Day with giveaways and support for diversity initiatives

Penn State Health recognized National Employee Resource Group Day on Nov. 17, offering gifts and information on the health system’s many Business Employee Resource Groups (BERGs) to employees who visited the hospital cafés.
During the event, employees received a $25 gift card for joining a BERG, fall-themed treats courtesy of Sodexo and giveaways from the Office for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. Current BERG members also had the opportunity to step forward as leaders or treasurers for their regions and groups.
Penn State Health has 24 BERGs representing various aspects of diversity, including disability, interfaith, multicultural, LGBTQ+, military/veteran and next-gen populations.
The health system has also established the Network for Under-represented Residents and Fellows, Black Physician and Professional Staff Association, Hispanic Professional Association, and International/Foreign Born Professionals Network to support diverse medical professionals. These groups meet monthly to identify and advance relevant diversity-related initiatives. Plans are in progress to establish an Asian Physician and Professional Staff Association.
