Penn State Health Go wayfinding app to be discontinued by June 30

Penn State Health will discontinue its mobile wayfinding app, Penn State Health Go, on or before June 30 because of low usage and the need to optimize use of the health system’s applications. The downloadable app was available at Hampden, Holy Spirit and Lancaster medical centers.

The app, which created a three-dimensional map of the hospital on visitors’ mobile devices with virtual blue lines and paw prints guiding visitors along the best route, will be updated with a message informing users that it is no longer available.

Employees are encouraged to help patients and visitors reach their destinations by guiding them. That personal touch will help improve patient experience, a key organizational goal for FY 2024. Patients and visitors can also get directions from Information Desk staff, volunteers and any employee with a badge.

The three medical centers have directional signage throughout the building, and Lancaster Medical Center has directories on each floor.

“Although the application was innovative, it makes sense to decommission it from a support and productivity standpoint,” said William Reed, interim senior vice president and chief information officer. “This will allow us to focus our resources on other applications that are more widely used and have a greater impact.”
