Penn State Health Holy Spirit hospitalists are patient experience champions
Holy Spirit Medical Center recognized six hospitalists as high performers in patient experience on May 21 and 28.
Senior leaders presented a Penn State Health Patient Experience pin, framed certificate, balloons, handwritten thank you note and gift card to the following providers:
- Krishna Dondeti
- Chris Kahlenborn
- Rajesh Kumar Essrani
- Shahjahan Molla
- Khalid Nawab
- Madhusudhan Ponnala
Dr. Shubhra Kumar-Bradley, associate chief medical officer of medicine and hospitalist medical director, conducted the pinning ceremony to recognize the physicians for being champions and advocates for the patient experience.
She noted the last 12 months have been especially challenging. As Holy Spirit staff was acclimating to their transition to Penn State Health, they also had to manage the increasing volume of patients during the COVID surge. Visitor policies needed to be changed, and patients and their families expressed increased anxiety. Through it all, the hospitalists made every effort to keep families updated and connected with their loved ones to alleviate their worries.
“We needed to manage the experience our patients were having through all of this chaos in a calm, confident nature so our patients always knew they are our priority,” Kumar-Bradley said. “The physicians did that while exhibiting a high level of empathy for family members and patients, who are in a different place of high anxiety and confusion. That is the culture of Holy Spirit and what we want to propagate and encourage as we welcome new providers and new staff.”
