Penn State Health Life Lion LLC paramedics Boring, Boland honored with Critical Save Awards

The Emergency Health Services Federation presented Clinical Save Awards to William Boring and Mark Boland, paramedics for Penn State Health Life Lion LLC, and Kayleigh Beck, emergency medical technician, East Pennsboro Emergency Medical Services on June 7. They received the award for providing life-sustaining care, including cardiopulmonary resuscitation and cardiac defibrillation, to a 10-year-old boy who suffered cardiac arrest in February.
When Boring, Boland and Beck arrived at the scene, they revived the patient by returning spontaneous circulation and sustained cardiac activity. They then transported him to Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center.
Steve Lyle, federation executive director, presented them with the awards during an East Pennsboro Township Supervisors meeting.
The Emergency Health Services Federation presents the Clinical Save Award to certified providers who are involved in the prehospital clinical care of a patient who becomes pulseless and/or stops breathing. Providers must have performed appropriate intervention and treatment before transporting the patient to the hospital. The patient must be discharged from the hospital without significant neurological impairment.
The Emergency Health Services Federation is a nonprofit organization serving Adams, Cumberland, Dauphin, Franklin, Lancaster, Lebanon, Perry and York counties. It works to improve the quality of emergency medical services throughout the region.
