The health system’s Office for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion launched or expanded several initiatives this year, including:
- Patient communication on mutual respect, including our no tolerance for diversity-related bias/discrimination toward employees
- Education for leaders, managers and supervisors on addressing workplace unconscious bias and microaggressions
- Celebrate Diversity events to recognize and celebrate cultural experiences
- Launch of pronoun awareness campaign, including distribution of pronoun lanyards
- Increased focus on supporting patients with disabilities through hiring a disability inclusion professional and establishing the Disability Inclusion Advisory Council
- Digital Storefront page with growing number of diversity-related resources
The health system office continued its Inclusion Academy webinars that provide strategies for caring for diverse patients, as well as the monthly Upstander Cafés on addressing microaggressions and unconscious bias in the workplace.
