Penn State Health to comply with federal vaccine mandate. Employees must have first dose or file an exemption by Dec. 8

Penn State Health will comply with President Joe Biden’s COVID-19 Action Plan mandating vaccination as a condition of employment for federal contractors. As a result, all employees must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or file a valid request for a medical or religious accommodation.
Entities within the health system meet the government’s criteria for a federal contractor. The executive order for federal contractors applies to employees in buildings even where no federal contracting work takes place unless the health system can “affirmatively determine” that none of its unvaccinated employees will come into contact with a vaccinated contractor employee. Because of the interactions of employees across the health system, Penn State Health must require all employees to comply.
What does this federal mandate mean?
All Penn State Health employees are required to become fully vaccinated against COVID-19 to continue their relationship with Penn State Health. At this time, a booster is not required to be considered fully vaccinated.
When do employees need to start the vaccination process?
Penn State Health must be able to report to the federal government that as of Wednesday. Dec. 8, we are complying with its mandate. Therefore, all employees must receive at least their first dose of one of the three COVID-19 vaccines or file a valid request for a medical or religious exemption by this date.
Where can employees who now want to be vaccinated get a first dose?
Penn State Health has scheduled additional first-dose clinics, with registration available via this SignUp Genius link. Additionally, vaccination sites are available at pharmacies throughout the region. Visit vaccines.gov to find a convenient location. Employees who receive their COVID-19 vaccination outside of Penn State Health will need to upload their proof of vaccination to ReadySet. Job aids are available on the Employee Health Infonet page.
Can employees choose weekly tests instead of getting vaccinated?
No. Federal guidance provided does not allow for weekly COVID-19 testing in lieu of vaccination.
Is anyone exempt from receiving the vaccine?
All Penn State Health employees must be vaccinated unless they are entitled to a medical or religious accommodation. Employees can find details on applying for an accommodation here.
