Scripting offers guidance for conversations about wearing face masks

Face masks covering both the nose and mouth are required for all staff, students, patients and family/support persons in all Penn State Health and College of Medicine facilities. Every day, however, we encounter individuals who either are not wearing a mask or are wearing one improperly.

To help staff who observe noncompliance with mask-wearing, Patient Experience has developed suggested scripting. It can be used when talking to patients, visitors and employees about the importance of wearing a mask at Penn State Health facilities.

The guidance uses simple acronyms ― SEAT and HEART ― to help staff remember what to say in a variety of situations.
