Smith receives one-year subaward grant
Charles Smith, PhD, Professor of Pharmacology at Penn State College of Medicine, has been awarded a subaward grant from the Medical University of South Carolina.
The grant is titled “Development of Novel Cancer Therapeutics by Targeting Sphingolipid Signaling” and is funded for one year for a total of $216,683.
Smith earned BS and PhD degrees in Biochemistry at Michigan State University, and conducted postdoctoral research at Duke University. He subsequently held positions at the Burroughs Wellcome Company, the University of Hawaii, the Fox Chase Cancer Center and the Medical University of South Carolina.
Smith’s research interests center on drug discovery and cancer pharmacology. His projects relate to signaling systems involved in tumor growth, and have been supported by grants from the NIH and other sources for over 20 years. He has more than 120 research publications, and multiple US and international patents.
