St. Joseph names October Daisy Award winners
St. Joseph presented DAISY (Diseases Attacking the Immune System) Awards on Oct. 23 to two nurses, Mary McDevitt and Ashley Lessman, for their skillful, compassionate care and their daily support of patients and families.
Colleagues recognized McDevitt, who works in case management, for being a strong role model who goes above and beyond in all situations.
“During the course of the COVID pandemic, I frequently see Mary going to extreme lengths to identify family members who can render decisions on behalf of patients who are unable to speak for themselves,” one nominator said. “No barrier or obstacle is too high or too challenging for Mary, and she always seems to find an innovative way to come to a solution, which makes her an outstanding care coordinator.”
Lessman’s nomination mentioned that “Ashley does an amazing job with breastfeeding moms and their babies,” and that others seek her out for hands-on help with patients.
“She makes every effort possible to provide baby-friendly care to every family she interacts with,” the nomination said. “Ashley has also gone above and beyond to provide lactation services to our patients. She is an exceptional nurse with clinical skills and compassion that other nurses wish to emulate.”
