Staff invited to sign up to help at Penn State Health’s newly launched, dedicated vaccination sites

Penn State Health’s four dedicated vaccination sites in Berks, Centre, Cumberland and Dauphin counties opened Feb. 22. The health system is seeking employees to help staff each location for four, eight or 12-hour shifts.

Positions include the following:

  • Greeters/screeners to welcome patients, ask COVID-19 screening questions of patient and their support person, if applicable, take temperature, and direct patients to check-in area
  • Ushers to greet patients after check-in, direct patients to next available vaccination station and help with foot traffic flow
  • Monitors to make sure that patients stay for 15 minutes post-vaccination and observe patients for any adverse reactions
  • Check-in staff to utilize Penn State Health’s online vaccination registration and vaccination platform to look up patient, confirm appointment, have patient sign consent forms and possibly schedule patient’s second-dose appointment
  • Mobile scheduler to use Penn State Health’s online vaccination registration and vaccination platform to schedule second-dose appointment while patient is in 15-minute monitoring phase
  • Pharmacists to maintain vaccine inventory during assigned shift, mix vaccine as needed per manufacturer specifications, answer staff and patient questions, conduct state and organizational reporting as required, and ensure that vaccine refrigerator and all inventory is secured at the end of the clinic day
  • Vaccinators to complete screening questions, provide vaccination, enter information into Penn State Health’s online vaccination registration and vaccination platform and provide urgent patient care if needed
  • Logistics coordinator to direct operations of the vaccination site during their shift
  • Provider of the day to work with logistics coordinator to assure efficient and effective practices, answer patient questions, provide needed urgent care to patients with any level of reaction and relieve other clinicians on break as vaccinator

Interested staff should sign up for the location associated with where they currently work — i.e., Hershey Medical Center staff should sign up for the Dauphin County dedicated vaccination site. Employees will receive their regular hourly rate of pay for the hours they work at the vaccination sites. They should seek manager approval prior to signing up for a shift.

Additionally, they must get prior approval from their manager for any shift work that would result in overtime.
