Students attend Experimental Biology Conference
Caitlin McMenamin and Amanda White, both students in the Anatomy PhD Program who work in the Department of Neural & Behavioral Sciences at Penn State College of Medicine, received travel awards to attend the 2016 Experimental Biology Conference.
The conference was held April 2 to 6, 2016, in San Diego, CA.
McMenamin presented posters on “Maternal High Fat Diet Induces the Expression of an Inhibitory Glycinergic Current in Rat Dorsal Motor Nucleus of the Vagus Neurons Regulating Gastric Functions” and “Developmental Regulation of Chloride Currents in the Dorsal Motor Nucleus of the Vagus of the Rat,” and presented both a postal and an oral presentation on “Maternal High Fat Diet Increases an Inhibitory Extrasynaptic Tonic GABAA Current in Dorsal Motor Nucleus of the Vagus Neurons Regulating Gastric Functions.”
White competed as a finalist in the Langman Graduate Platform Presentation Award with an oral presentation on the topic “Colonic Dysfunction following Acute Spinal Cord Injury: Oxidative Damage to Interstitial Cells of Cajal?”
McMenamin, a member of Kirsteen N. Browning‘s lab, successfully passed her comprehensive exam July 27, 2015. White, a member of Gregory M. Holmes‘ lab, successfully passed her comprehensive exam August 14, 2015.
