Safety Coaches Honored
Dr. Taffy Anderson, physician advisor with clinical documentation improvement at Hershey Medical Center, has been recognized as one of two safety coaches with the most documented coach observations for November/December 2019. She shares the honor with Heather Foreman, a nurse at Hershey Medical Center, 6 Acute Care. More than 60 safety coaches have been trained at the Medical Center to date. They help embed safety culture behaviors and error prevention tools within their work areas. Learn more about becoming a safety coach.

Martin Luther King Jr. Day Service Jan. 20
The Department of Pastoral Care and the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion are hosting the fourth annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day service at the College of Medicine’s Junker Auditorium on Monday, Jan. 20, from noon to 12:30 p.m. All are welcome to attend. Guest speaker Peter Speaks, the former deputy secretary of the Pennsylvania Department of General Services and special advisor to the governor, will offer a message in remembrance of the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
“Addressing Unconscious Bias in Health Care” Jan. 21
Emergency Physician Dr. Uche Blackstock, CEO of Advancing Health Equity, will give a presentation entitled “Addressing Unconscious Bias in Health Care” on Tuesday, Jan. 21 at noon at 100 Crystal A, Room 1119. Email to confirm your attendance. In response, you will receive information on completing a pre-workshop assignment. The event is a presentation of the Office for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.
Jazz Concert Jan. 21

Women’s Health Research Day April 16
Registration is now open for Women’s Health Research Day (WHRD) 2020, sponsored by the Penn State Center for Women’s Health Research and the College of Medicine’s Department of Public Health Sciences. WHRD 2020 will be on Thursday, April 16, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. at the University Conference Center. Registration is free and will be open until April 2. Register here.

The Medical Minute: Should You Exercise When You’re Sick?
The winter cold and flu season may try to knock out your new year’s plans to get or stay healthy, but the good news is you can fight back. Dr. Jayson Loeffert, a sports medicine physician at Penn State Health, said it’s typically okay to continue your regular exercise routine when you have a cold. Four Diamonds Impact Report
Four Diamonds at Penn State Health Children’s Hospital released its 2018-2019 Impact Report. Four Diamonds raised $18.6 million to help kids fighting cancer that year, according to the report.
