Wu honored as a trailblazer during Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month

Serena Wu, an assistant professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, is being honored as a trailblazer within Penn State Health and beyond.

Wu was chair of an April gala for Share of Lancaster, a nonprofit organization that helps people experiencing pregnancy and infant loss.

In recognition of Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, Penn State Health and Penn State College of Medicine employees were asked to nominate employees of Asian or Pacific Islander descent who are trailblazers within the health system and the community. A committee from the Multicultural Business Employee Resource Group (BERG) reviewed the nominations and selected Wu as this year’s winner.

Wu is a highly effective mentor to diverse groups of trainees. She also takes to heart the opportunity to serve each patient’s unique needs, recognizing the impact of their racial backgrounds, socioeconomic status or health inequities. Wu is a champion of health equity for people from diverse racial backgrounds and people with disabilities.

Wu graduated from the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University and completed her obstetrics and gynecology residency and maternal-fetal medicine fellowship training at the University of Chicago. She also completed a research fellowship at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and the University of Pennsylvania.
