Reveal party at Children’s Hospital brings THON excitement to patients

Penn State Health Children’s Hospital patients who couldn’t make the trip to State College this past weekend were still able to experience the magic of Penn State’s IFC/Panhellenic Dance Marathon, or THON. Children’s Hospital staff and Penn State nursing students threw a THON reveal party on Feb. 23.to celebrate the money raised this past year.

Staff, students, patients and their families gathered in the hematology/oncology unit to watch a live stream from State College as THON leaders announced a total of $11,696,942.38 raised this year—a million more than last year’s total.

“The support that Four Diamonds gets from THON, and how it helps our patients and families, is incredible,” said Stephanie Reed, nurse manager, pediatric hematology/oncology at the Children’s Hospital, who helped organize the party. “We are so grateful to Penn State students for all they do, from THON, to traveling to Hershey to spend time with our patients.”

Four Diamonds at Penn State Health Children’s Hospital is the sole beneficiary of THON, with a mission to conquer childhood cancer by assisting children and their families through superior care, comprehensive support and innovative research.
