I am Penn State Health: Sean Dolphin

“I love dealing with IT issues,” said no one ever – except Sean Dolphin.

The Information Services (IS) senior support specialist for Penn State Health’s Metro Harrisburg region loves the challenge of figuring out the glitch and its fix.

“I know I can, and I love the process,” said Dolphin, who got interested in information technology when he learned how to make a local computer network in an IT class at Dauphin County Vocational Technical School and started playing strategy video games. “It’s my own stubbornness.”

How I Spend My Days

I supply end-user support. Tickets come in from people who need equipment or answers to their computer questions. More recently, I’ve been helping install equipment at Penn State Health Hampden Medical Center and get everything ready to go. It’s exciting to see something grow from the ground up and say I had a part in it.

Biggest Challenge

Adapting to the transition to Penn State Health Holy Spirit Medical Center is challenging. I worked at Holy Spirit since 2011. Just because we got a new name and came under Penn State Health doesn’t mean everything automatically changes. There’s a lot of back-end IT work needed to make the transition complete. I field a lot of questions from employees who don’t understand that.

Why I’m Proud to Work at Penn State Health

I like being able to help people, and our employees know they can rely on me to resolve whatever computer issue is holding up their workday. I’m proud they can count on me.

What Makes My Co-Workers the Best

There’s a great comradery here in IS. We all sit in the same area and can bounce ideas or solutions off each other, and if someone has a problem, everyone drops what they’re doing to help.

Why Other IS Support Specialists Should Consider Joining Penn State Health

For end-user computing, what we’re able to do here utilizes a great part of your IT skill set – and the team you work with is great!

My Hobbies

I have three kids, ages 1, 4 and 7, and I love being a kid with them. My wife says I should grow up a little! I also love watching Eagles games and playing video games with my son.

On My Bucket List

I’d love to be able to travel throughout the U.S. and sightsee. I seldom get out of the Harrisburg area.

What Others Say About Sean

“Sean has a lot of knowledge, an outstanding personality and the ability to work with and talk to anyone. He’s also been instrumental in helping train new staff.”
