Paul recognized for pediatric research excellence
Dr. Ian Paul, professor and chief of the Division of Academic General Pediatrics in the Department of Pediatrics at Penn State College of Medicine, has been selected for the 2022 Academic Pediatric Association (APA) Research Award, which recognizes an investigator who has advanced pediatric knowledge through excellence in research as characterized by originality, creativity and methodological soundness.
Paul, who practices at Penn State Health Children’s Hospital, joins more than 30 renowned scholars who have been recognized with the annual award since 1990. Through their work, these researchers have epitomized the mission of the APA and contributed significantly to the general health of children in such areas as understanding mechanisms of health and disease, methods of education and innovative ways of providing children’s services, especially in the setting of vulnerable populations.
“I am honored to be the recipient of this award,” Paul said. “Much of the research that I lead involves a partnership with families and communities and I am grateful to them for allowing my collaborators and I into their homes, hospital rooms and office visits with the mutual goal of improving health for children. I want to thank the APA for their leadership and vision of academic pediatrics, which have a large role in fostering opportunities for people like me.”
Award winners demonstrate their eligibility by publishing peer reviewed research that advances the field, obtaining external funding for novel ideas, mentoring junior scholars, discovering knowledge that improves the lives of vulnerable children and demonstrating servant leadership in the field of research.
