A THON ‘Thank You’ from Penn State Health
Penn State Health CEO Steve Massini offered the following remarks in response to the news that THON 2023 had raised more than $15 million for Four Diamonds at Penn State Health Children’s Hospital.
I am elated to share the news that our incredible Penn State students set a new THON™ record – $15,006,132 – for Four Diamonds at Penn State Health Children’s Hospital during THON™ 2023!
This year’s theme was “Foster the Magic” and the energy, enthusiasm and appreciation that radiated throughout Bryce Jordan Center this past weekend did just that. Students danced, sang and donated their hair, and varsity athletes competed against each other in hilarious dance routines. Four Diamonds kids modeled their favorite outfits in the fashion show or shared their gifts in the talent show. Families told of their journey through pediatric cancer – and how Four Diamonds walked beside them all the way. The entire weekend was magical.
In an especially poignant moment, a Four Diamonds child donated her hair on stage to help and inspire other kids who are fighting cancer.
With this year’s total, THON has now raised more than $215 million to ensure that pediatric cancer patients undergoing care at our Children’s Hospital receive the most advanced treatment and at no cost to their families. THON also fuels groundbreaking research and innovative programs that aid young patients and their loved ones.
If you’d like to join me in thanking Penn State students for all their work to organize and execute THON, you can leave a message of gratitude on their THON Facebook page.
Thank you to all who play a role in the success of THON activities – from the students who work so hard all year to plan THON, to the kids and families who share their inspiring stories, to our colleagues in the Four Diamonds development office who coach our outstanding THON students, and to our own Penn State Health and College of Medicine family that every day delivers the Four Diamonds’ mission to our young patients who are fighting cancer.
Together, we foster the magic.
