Porter receives Holy Spirit Medical Center’s DAISY Award
Holy Spirit Medical Center presented the DAISY (Diseases Attacking the Immune System) Award to Malinda Porter, a registered nurse in the Cardiovascular Unit. The accolade recognizes nurses for their skillful, compassionate care and their daily support of patients and families.
A patient nominated Porter for the honor, highlighting her concern, professionalism and vigilance.
Following a heart ablation, the patient was kept for monitoring due to a history of post-surgery bleeding. During the evening, the patient did experience a bleeding issue. Porter was assigned to provide care through the night.
The patient said, “She was marvelous. She checked on me throughout the night, not satisfied until my bleeding totally stopped and I was resting comfortably. I really felt at peace that I was being well cared for.”
Porter also prepared a meatloaf dinner for the patient, who’s appetite returned in the middle of the night.
“I have had caring nurses in the past, but Malinda was exceptional,” the patient wrote. “She represents the balance of professionalism and compassion that I think represents the best in nursing care.”
