Who: All Penn State Health workforce, including PRN employees, must complete Compliance, Cybersecurity and Privacy Awareness and Microaggression/Unconscious Bias and Patient Bias Prevention.

The Compliance and Microaggression/Unconscious Bias and Patient Bias Prevention training does not apply to Penn State College of Medicine employees, who will receive similar training through Penn State. However, College of Medicine employees and the non-employee workforce (i.e., volunteers, students and contractors) will be required to complete the Cybersecurity and Privacy Awareness training modules.

As a requirement, employees of Hershey Medical Center, College of Medicine and Penn State Health Medical Group Academic Practice Division must complete the annual safety training.

When: Between Tuesday, Jan. 26, and Monday, May 31.

Why: Compliance training ensures employees understand key legal, ethical and policy issues related to patient care and the importance of accurate billing. Administrators have tailored the courses to specific employee roles.

Cybersecurity and Privacy Awareness training ensures that employees are trained and equipped to deal with threats emerging from the internet. It also satisfies our regulatory and compliance obligations under laws such as the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act.

Microaggressions affect how welcoming our environment feels to those who are new or different. This training will help us to learn what constitutes a microaggression and how we can become “upstanders” instead of bystanders should we witness one.

The Annual Safety Training provides awareness to staff and faculty on key safe practices for incident prevention and response in the workplace and helps the organization comply with regulatory and accreditation requirements.

Completion of the Compliance, Cybersecurity & Privacy and Microaggression/Unconscious Bias and Patient Bias Prevention Education trainings is a condition of continuing employment at Penn State Health.

Completion of Cybersecurity and Privacy Awareness trainings is a condition of continuing employment at the College of Medicine.

Failure to complete the assigned training can result in disciplinary action up to and including termination.
