Cloth masks no longer allowed at Penn State Health

All patients, visitors, staff and students, regardless of whether they are vaccinated, must now wear a medical-grade, level 1 mask within every Penn State Health facility. Employees in patient-facing environments have already been required to wear level 1 masks. Now, all staff, including those in administrative or non-clinical areas, must wear a level 1 mask until further notice.

Cloth masks worn by themselves are no longer allowed. Employees may wear a cloth mask with a medical-grade mask.

Employees should continue to follow all existing Penn State Health COVID-19 safety policies and protocols related to personal protective equipment for specific scenarios. For details, see Guidance for inpatients undergoing selected high-risk AGP procedures based on COVID community transmission and Isolation Precautions for Suspected and Confirmed Cases of COVID-19.

If employees have questions, they should work with their operational leader for clarification on appropriate mask usage for their role.
