Hampden, Holy Spirit medical centers honor Niles, Trivedi as 2024 Physicians of the Year

Leaders and employers from Hampden and Holy Spirit medical centers honored their 2024 Physicians of the Year during National Doctors’ Day appreciation celebrations on March 29. A group of physicians and nurses selected the winners from among their colleagues.

Dr. Bret Delone, vice president of medical affairs at Holy Spirit Medical Center, presented psychiatrist Dr. Karm Trivedi with the Physician of the Year award at Holy Spirit Medical Center’s Doctors Day appreciation breakfast.

“This physician sees his patients, completes discharge orders, communicates with staff in a timely manner, always,” a nominator wrote about Triveldi. “I have worked with him many times on problem solving medication regimens to optimize medications so patients feel better faster and can be discharged sooner. He listens and is respectful of people (patient and peers) all the time.”

Another nominator said, “When he is on call, this physician responds quickly, and the overnight staff feels safe knowing that he is timely in responding to unit needs.”

Later in the day, during a National Doctors’ Day appreciation lunch, Dr. James Leaming, vice president of medical affairs and staffing development at Hampden Medical Center, honored Dr. Christian Niles of the Department of Hospice and Palliative Care with the Medical Center’s 2024 Physician of the Year Award.

Hampden Medical Center recognized cardiologist Dr. Ketankumar Sheth and hospitalist Dr. Amanda Anton with honorable mentions.

“Christian is an exemplary clinical provider, which many of his patients have told me,” one nominator said. “He supports not only patients and families, but staff as well. We had a challenging palliative care case that was particularly hard for staff, and Christian recognized this and led an impromptu debriefing session for the nurses. It is an honor to work with Dr. Niles.”

Another nominator wrote, “Dr. Niles is always going above and beyond for his patients. He is consistently thinking outside of the box and getting creative to meet patient’s needs while also meeting system goals and metrics. I appreciate him so much.”

The annual Doctors’ Day observance recognizes the contributions physicians make to improve the lives of their patients and communities. Penn State Health physician leaders sent a joint message thanking all system physicians. “Thank you for your continuous pursuit of excellence,” they wrote. “Thank you for your willingness to change and adapt as our profession continues to do so. Thank you for your empathy, passion and compassion.”
