Harrell Library shares educational video content through Kaltura channel
Harrell Health Sciences Library hosts its own publicly accessible educational video channel through a Penn State platform called Kaltura. There you can find videos created by our team of experts on topics in media and research skills, as well as about the history of the library. Some topics covered include searching PubMed, using iMovie, and a celebration of 10 years of our Read Awards Program. There are also workshop recordings such as an introduction to animation, and an introduction to tech tools in teaching. Keep an eye on the channel for additional recorded workshop postings.
Are you considering sharing your own institutional content? Kaltura allows Penn State users to create channels to host videos for their audience own audience such as students in a specific course or professional development for faculty and staff. Channel owners can control the privacy settings of videos uploaded to their channels so that the content is public, available only to someone with Penn State access, or exclusive to a specific group of invited members.
When uploading videos to Kaltura, you will have the option to edit them on the platform. You can also request automatically generated captions and edit them for further accuracy if necessary. Additionally, there is an option to create video quizzes that integrate questions throughout a selected video. You can find an example of a video quiz on the library’s Kaltura channel, named “HHSL Intro Video – Quiz.” There are many additional resources for learning how to use Kaltura that can be found through its Learning Resources page.
