Hershey Emergency Preparedness Fair teaches how to protect home, family Sept. 6

Are you prepared? Sixty percent of all Americans say they haven’t practiced what to do in the event of an emergency, according to the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

Learn how to protect your family and your home at Penn State Health’s first Emergency Preparedness Fair:

  • Friday, Sept. 6
  • 8 a.m.―4 p.m.
  • Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center
  • Tent outside Rotunda Café

“It’s all about raising awareness of the importance of being prepared for a disaster ― both natural and man made,” said Jeff Allen, emergency preparedness program manager at the Milton S. Hershey Medical Center. “September is National Preparedness Month, so we want to offer our staff and faculty an educational opportunity to learn about the programs that are available to help them.”

Emergencies range from floods and snowstorms to power outages, cyber attacks and active shooter events.

Representatives from Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency (PEMA), the Dauphin County Hazardous Materials Response Team, Hershey Volunteer Fire Department, 911 Rapid Response and others will be on hand.

Attendees can learn about the Stop the Bleed program, how to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation and how to use an automated external defibrillator. Enter to win an emergency survival kit, receive giveaways and enjoy free ice cream.

Allen says his goal is for the Emergency Preparedness Fair to become a community-wide event in the future
