Hershey Medical Center President Deborah Berini sent the following email announcing the appointment of Dr. Sarah Iriana as Hershey Medical Center’s new chief medical officer effective Feb. 1.

Dear Colleagues:

I am pleased to announce that Dr. Sarah Iriana has been selected as Hershey Medical Center’s new chief medical officer. Dr. Iriana is the current interim chair, Department of Pediatrics and pediatrician in chief, Penn State Health Children’s Hospital.

She has been a faculty member serving in a clinician-educator role at Hershey Medical Center since 1996. As a clinician, she has over 25 years of experience as a general pediatrician practicing well child care and preventative medicine, in addition to partnering with families to care for children through all stages. Most recently, she served on the visionary team that planned the successful Penn State Health Children’s Hospital expansion.

Dr. Iriana excels in patient satisfaction and has received recognition and awards in this area. She educates residents and medical students and has served as a mentor to many students, residents and junior faculty.

She served as practice site medical director at the 35 Hope Drive academic general pediatrics practice site, as associate division chief of Academic General Pediatrics and associate chief medical officer.

Dr. Iriana is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics, Council on Clinical Information Technology and Committee on Practice and Ambulatory Medicine, as well as an AMSPDC New Chairs Mentorship Program participant.

She has developed several abstracts and her writing about pediatric issues appears in several publications.

Dr. Iriana graduated from the University of Vermont College of Medicine and completed her pediatric residency at the Hershey Medical Center.

Dr. Iriana will start in her new position on Monday, Feb. 1, 2021, providing time for a smooth transition for the Department of Pediatrics. A message is forthcoming from Dr. Kevin Black about the appointment to the position of interim chair for pediatrics.

Please join me in congratulating Dr. Iriana on her new position.

Sincerely,

Deborah Berini,
Hershey Medical Center President
