LionVu update includes improved mapping, charting and downloading functions

In 2018, Penn State Cancer Institute (PSCI) developed LionVu, a web mapping and data portal to assist PSCI investigators and trainees with developing funding proposals, exploring hypotheses and contributing to publications. LionVu has now been updated with the most recently available data and improved mapping, charting and downloading functions.

LionVu allows clinical and population researchers to visualize and utilize health data at various levels of aggregation and geographical scales (i.e., county or census tracts). For example:

  • An investigator can use the side-by side mapping and charting functionalities to explore the hypothesis that limited access to dental providers is associated with higher oral cancer incidence in central Pennsylvania.
  • Users can visualize the location of all hospitals, federally qualified health centers and federally designated medically underserved areas with population-based cancer screening prevalence.

LionVu has over 400 data variables for the commonwealth of Pennsylvania, with separate displays for the commonwealth and for the 28-county PSCI catchment area.
