Penn State Health extends pay and benefits security program through July 4

As Penn State Health continues to manage through the significant operational and financial effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, out of respect for the commitment shown by the workforce to patients and their colleagues, Penn State Health will again extend its pay and benefits security program through the pay period ending July 4 (pay issued, Friday, July 10). Employees who are currently redeployed to alternative duties during their regular hours, and staff who are asked to stay home without work as a result of reduced hours, will continue to receive their current regular compensation through July 4.

Penn State Health leaders, Human Resources staff and department managers are coordinating plans to safely bring people back to on-site work, where required. This includes determining which of nearly 5,000 employees who have worked remotely during the pandemic can continue to work off-site for the foreseeable future, and how to reconfigure work spaces to support social distancing practices in the workplace where employees must return to on-site work.

SECURE Pay — a pay and benefits continuance for employees who are asked to stay home without work due to reduced hours, and available after all available opportunities for telework and redeployment have been exhausted — will not be extended after July 4.

Any guarantee of salary and benefits for all employees beyond this latest extension will depend greatly on patient volume and the ability to manage expenses in the weeks and months ahead. Penn State Health will continue to review pay and benefits practices to ensure that as the situation evolves, we remain competitive, supportive of our workforce and ready to meet the needs of our patients. This includes an evaluation of the need to continue offering WELL Pay and CARE Pay after July 4. Human Resources will communicate additional changes in the coming weeks.
