Petrovic-Dovat wins Excellence in Enhancing Diversity and Inclusion award

A team of faculty and staff members from Hershey Medical Center’s Department of Family and Community Medicine named Dr. Lidija Petrovic-Dovat, an associate professor of child and adolescent psychiatry and director of the child and adolescent anxiety and depression program in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health, winner of the Excellence in Enhancing Diversity and Inclusion award.

The recognition, awarded every two months, highlights Penn State Health employees’ contribution to enhancing diversity, equity and inclusion in their work environments. Created through a Kienle Center for Humanistic Medicine’s “Ripple Effect” grant, the award highlights employee efforts to improve the experience of racially and ethnically diverse coworkers, patients and learners.

Petrovic-Dovat was recognized for collaborating with colleagues to develop a gender health clinic and related didactic curriculum for child and adolescent psychiatry fellows that include case conferences facilitated by experts in gender health. Also, Petrovic-Dovat built community with a group of women among the child and adolescent psychiatry faculty in the child division to start a peer mentoring group with a shared goal to establish better collaboration, communication, support, and assistance and to help guide new faculty as they join the division.

Each awardee selects a “Hidden Hero” ― someone instrumental in their accomplishments. Petrovic-Dovat’s Hidden Hero is Dr. Fauzia Mahr, vice chair for quality in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health. Mahr collaborated with Petrovic-Dovat and additional providers from the Gender Health Clinic and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Clinic in creating a curriculum to improve gender health competence in child and adolescent psychiatry fellows as a core clinical skill and competency.
