Reed named interim senior vice president and chief information officer

On Monday, June 3, William “Bill” Reed joins Penn State Health as interim senior vice president and chief information officer. He is a partner with Huntzinger Management Group, Inc., a Pennsylvania-based healthcare information technology consulting firm that organizations identify and implement effective IT solutions for complex situations, including IT support for mergers and acquisitions and the effective integration of multiple technology platforms.

Reed replaces Rod Dykehouse, who left the organization this week after seven years as chief information officer, first for Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center and Penn State College of Medicine and subsequently as senior vice president and chief information officer for the health system.

To be a leader in the delivery of effective patient care, health sciences discovery and the training of health professionals, the organization must have high-performing, user-friendly IT systems, said Steve Massini, executive vice president, chief administrative officer and chief financial officer of Penn State Health, in an email to employees.

In addition to overseeing day-to-day information technology operations, Reed will help Penn State Health develop a comprehensive IT strategic plan to support the goals of the growing health system. He will lead the review, prioritization and resource planning for current and upcoming IT projects. He will manage relationships with technology vendors and the ongoing support of existing IT systems that support the health system, its clinical entities and the College of Medicine.

Reed is an experienced health care IT leader. During his career, he has served as the chief information officer of Geisinger Health System, Thomas Jefferson University, Quantum Health Resources and Gentiva Health Services and held informatics roles at several other organizations. His previous positions include serving as the president and CEO of AllOne Health Group, and the executive vice president and chief operating officer of BlueCross of Northeastern Pennsylvania.

Reed is known for his ability to develop effective teams and build strategic plans to help get the most out of information technology systems and operations, Massini said.

System leadership will conduct a national search for a new permanent senior vice president and chief information officer.
