The People’s Morning Show brings “Name That Tune” to patients as Pay 4 Play celebrates 20 years

Anniversary celebration recognized as partnership that has raised more than $4 million for children and families across the region
Children’s Miracle Network at Penn State Health Golisano Children’s Hospital celebrated 20 years of Pay 4 Play with a lively Name That Tune game for patients, hosted by Nipsey and Vince of The People’s Morning Show. The partnership with 105.7 THE X and Cumulus Media has raised more than $4 million to support children and families across the region.
Held on Oct. 20, one month before Pay 4 Play XX goes live on Nov. 19 and 20 on 105.7 THE X, the celebration recognized two decades of community generosity and the partnership’s impact on pediatric care, family support and programs that help children feel like kids during a hospital stay.
Funds raised through Pay 4 Play have supported lifesaving medical equipment, patient assistance, patient and family programs and innovative research.
During the morning’s Child Life event, Nipsey and Vince played Name That Tune with children at the hospital. The game was streamed into patient rooms so children who could not attend in person could join in.
“Child Life is one of the many areas where funds raised through Pay 4 Play can make a difference, helping kids feel like kids,” said Katie Anderson, director of Children’s Miracle Network at Penn State Health Golisano Children’s Hospital. “For 20 years, this partnership has brought our community together around something that matters to all of us: giving kids the gift of growing up and giving families the support they need along the way.”

The celebration also featured former patient Sam Erikson, who was born at 27 weeks and spent the first 73 days of his life in the Children’s Hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. A specialized Giraffe Omnibed, made possible through Children’s Miracle Network donations, helped provide the care he needed as a newborn. Erikson later underwent multiple surgeries at the Children’s Hospital.
Erikson said sharing his story through Pay 4 Play from a young age helped him see how radio could bring people together and make a difference, inspiring his path in radio and education. “I’m proof that the impact can last a lifetime,” he said.
Other speakers included Gil Pak, director of operations at the Children’s Hospital, and Dr. Karen Kim, dean of Penn State College of Medicine. They highlighted how Penn State Health, as an academic medical center, connects clinicians caring for children today with researchers, educators and future providers working to improve care in the years ahead. Guests also included members of care teams supported by donor funding, including Life Lion and Child Life, as well as Miracle Families.
During the event, Children’s Miracle Network presented Miracle Maker Awards to Jen Shade, Nipsey, Vince, and Chris James of The People’s Morning Show, and Ron Giovenello, regional vice president for Cumulus Media, in recognition of their 20 years of commitment to children and families.
“Every year, you bring people together around a cause that matters,” Anderson said. “You build excitement, inspire generosity and remind our community that when we come together, we can make a real difference in the lives of children.”
