Students complete 2022 Schreyer Honors College MD/PhD Summer Exposure Program

Several students participated in the 2022 Schreyer Honors College MD/PhD Summer Exposure Program. The 10-week program is run by the Penn State College of Medicine MD/PhD Program, and the students work in a biomedical research lab at the college.

Suzanne Kozloski (Allentown, Pa., majoring in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology)

Suzanne Kozloski worked in the laboratory of Todd Schell, professor of microbiology and immunology, and attended clinic with Dr. Catherine Paules, associate professor of medicine, as part of her summer experience. Kozloski presented her laboratory summer project findings as a poster titled, “Schweinfurthins Induce Growth Inhibition of Murine Bladder Cancer Cells and Promote Surface Calreticulin Translocation.”

Hannah Kline (Elizabethtown, Pa., majoring in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, German)

Hannah Kline worked in the laboratory of Yongsoo Kim, associate professor of neural and behavioral sciences, and attended clinic with neurology faculty including Penn State MD/PhD program alum Dr. Xiaowei “Bill” Su, assistant professor of neurology. Kline presented her laboratory summer project findings as a research talk titled, “The Effect of Oxytocin Receptor Knockout on Oxytocin Producing Neurons.”

Rachel Harter (Greensburg, Pa., majoring in Science)

Rachel Harter worked in the laboratory of Dr. Keith Cheng, distinguished professor of pathology and laboratory medicine, biochemistry and molecular biology and pharmacology, and attended clinic with Cancer Institute faculty, including Dr. Raymond Hohl, director of the Cancer Institute and University Professor in Oncology. Harter presented her laboratory summer project findings as a poster entitled, Genotyping and Functional Validation in zebrafish for East Asian Pigmentation Candidate Polymorphisms.
