CareConnect Preferred Name Program now in effect
The CareConnect Preferred Name Program is now in effect at all Penn State Health entities that use the Cerner Millennium electronic health record (EHR) platform. A patient’s preferred name is what they wish to be called other than their legal name. Registration staff ask patients how they prefer to be addressed and enter the name on their electronic EHR. This change addresses a common cause of patient dissatisfaction and insurance claim denials due to discrepancies between the preferred and legal names. Care team members should look for the preferred name on the patient’s wristband, in the patient summary, on demographic banners in the EHR and registration applications, and on the face sheets for Cerner PowerChart and registration.
Ornament sponsorship keeps memory of loved one alive
Offered through the St. Joseph Medical Center Foundation, the Lights of Love program seeks donors to fill the Christmas trees in the Bern and Downtown Reading campus lobbies with stars and ornaments, for a $50 or $10 donation respectively, in honor of a loved one or colleague. The Christmas trees will be on display through Monday, Jan. 6.

Family recognizes entire care team as Guardian Angels
The family of a Penn State Health St. Joseph patient recognized the entire provider team from 1 North and the St. Joseph Cancer Center that cared for their loved one with a donation to the Guardian Angel program. “The compassion and dedication that Penn State Health St. Joseph showed to Lisa fills the missing piece in my heart… Many blessings to each one of you.
