Penn State Health earns fourth consecutive VETS Indexes employer award

Penn State College of Medicine also gains recognition

For the fourth consecutive year, Penn State Health has been recognized by the VETS Indexes Employer Awards program for its commitment to hiring, retaining and supporting veterans and the military community. In the 2026 program, Penn State Health received the 3-Star Employer Award.

In addition, Penn State College of Medicine received the Recognized Employer Award in its inaugural year of participation in the program.

The awards honor the organizations’ “meaningful and measurable support for veterans through a commitment to building opportunities for those who served,” said Nicholas Antaki, VETS Indexes president. “Employers like Penn State Health and Penn State College of Medicine continue to set the standard and help drive the future of veteran employment.”

“In recognition of the service and sacrifices made by military personnel and their families, we work diligently to create a workplace where they can thrive,” said Dr. Inginia Genao, vice dean and vice president of Health Advancement and Community Engagement. “By hiring veterans and sponsoring our Military and Veterans Business Employee Resource Group, we honor their service, gain enormous talent and support one another, our trainees and our patients.”

“In line with this commitment, I am pleased that both Penn State Health and the College of Medicine are now participating in this benchmarking survey.”

Select groups recognized

Hundreds of organizations including companies, government agencies, nonprofits and universities submitted surveys to the program. Awards were based on analysis of employers’ policies, practices and outcomes in five categories:

  • Veteran job candidate recruiting and hiring
  • Veteran employee development and retention
  • Veteran-inclusive policies and culture
  • Support for members of the National Guard and Reserves
  • Military spouse and family support

In the veteran-inclusive policies and culture category, Penn State Health was benchmarked at the five-star level.
