Penn State Health Lancaster Medical Center recognized as a 2026 Vizient Top Performer for quality

Penn State Health Lancaster Medical Center has been recognized for excellence in the quality of patient care by a national health care performance improvement company.

Vizient named Lancaster Medical Center a 2026 Top Performer in the community hospital cohort of the Bernard A. Birnbaum, MD, Quality Leadership Award.

Lancaster Medical Center was one of 22 hospitals recognized in the community hospital cohort this year.

“Lancaster Medical Center has an important role in the health and well-being of the Lancaster County community, said Joseph Frank, president of Penn State Health Lancaster and St. Joseph medical centers. “This recognition reflects our commitment to being a trusted health care partner for our neighbors and ensuring they have access to high-quality, safe care close to home.”

Vizient’s Quality and Accountability Study evaluates participating health care organizations across six domains of patient care: safety, mortality, effectiveness, efficiency, patient centeredness and variation in care.

Lancaster Medical Center’s recognition reflects its ongoing commitment to using data, evidence-based practices and continuous improvement to advance quality and patient safety.

Since opening in 2022, Lancaster Medical Center has received several national recognitions for quality and patient safety. In 2025, it was named a Top General Hospital by The Leapfrog Group, placing it among the highest-performing hospitals nationally for excellence in patient safety and quality. The medical center also earned an “A” Hospital Safety Grade from Leapfrog in spring 2026.
