College of Medicine names interim chair of Department of Pediatrics

Dr. Michael Beck, professor of pediatrics and medicine at Penn State College of Medicine, has been named interim chair of the Department of Pediatrics, effective Feb. 1, 2021.

He replaces Dr. Sarah Iriana, who has been appointed Hershey Medical Center’s chief medical officer.

Since joining the organization in 2006, Beck has served as associate program director for both the Internal Medicine Residency and the and Medicine/Pediatrics Residency.

He consistently ranks nationally as a top physician in pediatrics and has been listed among the Best Doctors in America since 2007. He was a recipient of the Dean’s Award for Excellence in Teaching and has received faculty teaching awards from the Departments of Pediatrics, Medicine and Family and Community Medicine. He was the first recipient of the inaugural Junior Faculty Teaching Award in 2010.
