Bird plans March 2021 retirement from Penn State Health

After nearly 25 years of service to Penn State Health, Dr. Bill Bird, senior vice president of Penn State Health Medical Group, Community Practice Division, has announced that he plans to retire in March 2021.

Bird has held many different and influential roles during his tenure with Penn State Health, including interim chair of the Department of Family and Community Medicine and medical director of the University Physician Group, a precursor to Penn State Health Medical Group. In addition to his current leadership of Penn State Health Medical Group, he also serves as chief medical officer for Penn State Health Care Partners, the health system’s clinically integrated network.

In his message announcing the retirement, Dr. Peter Dillon, Penn State Health executive vice president and chief clinical officer, praised Bird for his “calm, collaborative and incredibly thoughtful approach to problem-solving, as well as his deep commitment to compassionate, patient-centered care of the highest quality.”
