Center for Medical Innovation invites applications for new proof of concept funding program

Penn State College of Medicine investigators are invited to apply for the Center for Medical Innovation’s new CMI Pathways Proof of Concept Funding Program. The award supports the development of drug therapeutics, medical devices, digital technologies and diagnostics that have the ability to change the standard of care. Applications for the award are due July 15.

“Our mission is to deliver economic and social value from Penn State medical innovation by supporting the advancement of medical technologies in the marketplace,” said Erika Swift, operations director of the Center for Medical Innovation. “Supporting our investigators through a team-based developmental approach provides them with both funding and expertise needed to make translational research tomorrow’s health care innovations.”

  • Award Amounts: Up to $100,000 in direct costs (indirect costs are not allowed)
  • Funding Source: Center for Medical Innovation (CMI)
  • Submission Deadline: July 15, 2022, no later than 5 p.m. (EST)
  • Match Requirement: None
  • Number of Applications Allowed: One (1) application allowed per applicant

Cross-college and/or business collaborations are eligible for this award. Projects will receive funding and business development support by partnering with the CMI team in advancing the technology through the duration of the award.

NOTE: This RFA is different than the CMI Innovation Accelerator Award RFP that concluded in April. The Proof of Concept Award is intended for earlier-stage technologies.
