Concrete installation on new Children’s Hospital floors starts Friday

Concrete will be installed on the new floors of Penn State Health Children’s Hospital beginning this Friday, Sept. 14 from 1 to 6:30 a.m. Concrete is also scheduled to be placed on Sept. 21 and Sept. 28, with more dates to follow.

The contractor will begin setting up concrete pump truck equipment on University Drive in front of the Children’s Hospital at 1 a.m. on Sept. 14. Between 12 to 14 concrete trucks will enter the construction area at the main entrance of the Children’s Hospital and will exit toward the traffic light.

Traffic control personnel will be posted at the entrance and exit of the construction site to ensure the safety of staff, patients and families who may be using the crosswalk. Concrete trucks are expected every half an hour until the placement is completed.

Individuals may notice the following effects from this phase of the construction project:

  • Noise from the truck engines may be heard but is expected to be less than the noise of the crane being erected
  • Occasional noise from setting up the concrete chutes may be heard
  • Foot and vehicle traffic may be disrupted slightly at the main entrance between 1 and 6:30 a.m.
