Leadership Academy offers training for faculty, providers and staff
Penn State Health and Penn State College of Medicine employees, faculty and physicians who are interested in leadership positions, have previous leadership experience and have the support of their supervisor or chair can submit applications for the Leadership Academy now through June 1. The program runs Sept. 24 to 28 at University Park.
The kickoff dinner is scheduled for Sept. 9 on the campus of Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center.

Developed in partnership with Penn State's Smeal College of Business and Penn State Executive Programs, the Leadership Academy is designed to promote strategic leadership and management skills in academic health centers and associated health care systems. In past programs, emerging leaders from clinical, education and research areas gained critical insights into some of the challenges and opportunities confronted by academic health centers.
The course content is focused on addressing leadership challenges and opportunities within academic health care systems. Curriculum topics may include:
- Understanding the changing health care landscape
- Understanding the value of research and education to these systems and the funding challenges the systems face
- Managing the cycles of change in strategic leadership
- Building your executive presence
- Closing the gap between financial perceptions and performance
- Enhancing operational effectiveness within a partnership of an academic health center and a regional health system
- Building teams
- Addressing the emotional well-being of teams
- Providing clear and effective communication
