Group's pillowcase donations brighten days – and nights – for Children's Hospital patients

Representatives of Ryan’s Case for Smiles recently delivered a special pillowcase to Penn State Hershey Children’s Hospital. The ceremonial pillowcase represented the 1 millionth such donation made by the group, which has 120 chapters across North America.

Volunteers with Ryan’s Case for Smiles provide colorful pillowcases designed to give an emotional boost to children in the hospital. The organization, formerly known as ConKerr Cancer, recently changed its name to reflect its mission of serving all children with life-changing illnesses and injuries.

Over the last two months, Ryan’s Case for Smiles has provided approximately 1,200 pillowcases to Penn State Hershey Children’s Hospital, where members of the Child Life team give them to patients in all four of the hospital’s inpatient units, as well as outpatient clinics and the Emergency Department. The group also visits regularly to conduct “sew-ins,” at which patients can try their hand at sewing their own pillowcases.
