Community invited to tune in virtually as students present and compete among 1,000 research projects nationwide
Six Penn State College of Medicine students have advanced to the 2026 American Medical Association (AMA) Research Challenge, the country’s largest multi-specialty research conference built specifically for medical students, residents and international medical graduates.
This year’s competition drew submissions from hundreds of medical schools and health care institutions across the country, with 1,000 participants selected to showcase their work at the virtual poster symposium and semifinals.
The following students earned qualifying scores to participate in the poster symposium and semifinals:

Over the three-day event from Tuesday, Oct. 13 through Thursday, Oct. 15, AMA members will review and score posters across six research categories – basic science, clinical and translational research, clinical vignettes, health systems science, medical education, and public health and health policy – to help narrow the field to five finalists. Those finalists will go on to present before a judging panel for a shot at the $10,000 grand prize.
Past winners of the competition have gone on to publish and build national profiles around their work.
College of Medicine faculty, staff, trainees and students are encouraged to log in anytime during the event window to browse posters, support Penn State’s competitors and offer feedback that helps advance research from across the country.
Registration and additional details are available on the AMA Research Challenge event page.
