He will replace Dr. Carol Weisman when she steps down as associate dean in July 2019.

Active in clinical research, he has earned both industry and National Institutes of Health (NIH)-sponsored awards. Boehner served on several NIH review sections, including as chair of the Clinical Integrative Cardiovascular study section for two years.

An engaged clinician and gifted cardiologist, he currently directs the Heart Failure Program and Congestive Heart Failure Clinic at Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center and was the medical director of Cardiac Transplantation for many years.

Boehmer has been a member of the Penn State University Faculty Senate since 2001 and served as committee chair for the University Planning Committee. He was elected by his peers as secretary of Faculty Senate in 2007-2008, and was a member of the Faculty Advisory Committee to the President of the University that year. From 2012 to 2014, Boehmer served as chair of the Intercollegiate Athletics Committee of the University Faculty Senate during a particularly challenging time in Penn State athletics.

“Dr. Boehmer’s journey of clinical care, research, teaching and service have given him extensive exposure to the challenges faced by faculty members across the faculty lifespan and across disciplines,” said Dan Shapiro, vice dean for faculty and administrative affairs. “I am confident he will serve our faculty with distinction.”
