Hershey Medical Center launches hourly capacity report on Infonet

Hershey Medical Center reinstated its incident command center for a limited time to better manage the surge in patient volumes. One of the command center objectives was to launch an online report providing an updated snapshot of overall inpatient capacity.

All Hershey Medical Center employees and faculty can now access the report, refreshed hourly, on the Hershey Medical Center and College of Medicine Infonet landing page. Scroll down to the Quality and Performance Section under Dashboards and Metrics and click on Hourly Census.

This data, along with the new Hershey Medical Center and Penn State Health Children’s Hospital surge plans, provides employees with critical information and guidance to manage high occupancy rates. Situational awareness across the organization will help direct decisions about patient placements and transitions and staffing and supply needs and will improve cross-team collaboration.

The command center, having met all its objectives, has shut down. However, team members remain focused on surge-plan education and implementation and ensuring the workforce has all the support and resources needed to deliver high quality patient care.

Contact Heather Brooks, director, patient logistics, with any questions about the report.
